Ladies and Gentlemen,
After my first full season at Walden Ponds, I feel relieved it’s over and excited for what’s to come in 2020. I thought we had a pretty successful year. But, as I review and critique our golf operation, we have a long way to go.
In 2019 we spent a lot of time and resources to make the facility look and run better. We also spent a lot of time maintaining the driving range. We knew that it had been an area where we needed to improve so we allocated a lot towards that project. Even though all of the changes we made were effective in our eyes, I realized, we never actually served the customer any better. We made a lot of changes that you probably never noticed. We made improvements without improving the experience of the customer.
2020 is the year of the customer. We are completely overhauling the way we staff the golf operation. We will have more defined roles for our employees in order to serve you better. We will have rangers on the course whose only job will be to maintain good pace of play, fill divots, fix ball marks, and clear trash from the golf course. From the start of his shift until the end, he will be on the course serving our customers. We will have an assigned player assistant who will be by the bag drop helping you unload your bag, making sure your cart is fully equipped with a cooler, pencil, and scorecard. He is there to help you and your guests find the first hole, the driving range, putting green, or even the nearest restroom. And finally, we will have an assigned starter. He will be in charge of managing the first tee, communicate course rules, pace of play, and course maintenance. We failed in the area of communication in 2019, so we are making big changes to ensure we don’t have the same problem again.
In 2020 we are adding a lot of features to our website.
- Calendar of Events
- This calendar of events is not only for Walden Ponds events. This is for all the outings we have throughout the year. Instead of hearing my voice tell you over and over that we have an outing booked you will be able to go on, see how many players are expected to be in the outing, the start time, and how it will affect your golf for the day.
- WP BLOG
- The WP BLOG is one way we want to communicate with our customers. Throughout the year myself, Cheryl our GM, and Matt our Superintendent will post about projects, course conditions, news, or any other information we want to tell you about. My professional staff and I will also be posting tips and online classes for you to become a better player and enjoy the game more.
- Tournament Schedule
- We will also have our full tournament schedule posted by December. On the schedule we will have a breakdown for entry fee, format, start time, tee information, and other relevant information. We will also open registration well in advance so that you can get signed up and ensure your spot. We are excited for the 2020 tournament schedule. We hope to see you out here.
If you know me, you know I’m typically not settled with the status quo. We are turning Walden Ponds on its head and seeing where we can make the experience better. We want Walden Ponds to feel like your home course in 2020.
I had the chance to go Pinehurst with my dad a few years ago. We had the greatest time. If you’ve ever been you know you don’t have to think about a single thing but enjoying your round. They take care of just about everything. We cannot provide a lot of the services they provide, but I’d like to provide my customers with the same feeling they gave me and my dad.
I want to allow you and the rest of your foursome the opportunity to not think and just enjoy your round. We are working to give you every chance to escape everything outside the golf course and purely enjoy the green grass. Every decision we make in 2020 will be to serve you more fully. We are going to make leaps forward in the months to come. We are going to make Walden Ponds a public course with a private club level of service.
