Welcome to Walden Ponds Golf Club

This Estate was originally built in 1831 by Joseph Hough, a Hamilton merchant. The "Farm" as later sold to George Rentschler, a native of Germany who moved to this area and was foreman of Variety Iron Works. After the death of George Rentschler, his son, Gordon Soho Rentschler became owner of the estate. Gordon, a world renowned industrialist and banker in Hamilton, moved to New York in the late 1920's to become president and CEO of Citi Bank. From that time on the Estate was used for holidays and summer vacations keeping a year-around staff and caretakers to care for the property. The Walden Ponds Golf Community was inspired from the famous poem "On Walden Ponds" written by Thoreau.
